We see the way computers and the Internet are used in schools today rapidly changing as connectivity cost continue to fall, computing hardware becomes more efficient and virtualized, and software continues to move towards a software-as-a-service model (SaaS). These rapid advances are sometimes referred to as Cloud or Utility Computing. Thanks to Cloud Computing, the services that can be delivered by finalsite and others will greatly enhance existing web applications and provide scope for entirely new ones. finalsite’s goals are twofold: to leverage the benefits and efficiencies of Cloud Computing for its own software and services and, in due course, to use the technology to provide entirely new services for the education community.
In the coming years, finalsite’s web software will contain many feature enhancements that take advantage of Internet software along with the SaaS model. You will see significant enhancements involving Blogs and Forums, Alerts, Group Spaces, eNotify, Event Registration, our mobile platform, Networking, Sharing, Portal Elements, Web Forms, and many more integration options.
On the data center side, the deployment of fast and efficient blade servers, robust storage area networks (SANs), and advanced server virtualization continue to provide finalsite with a sound basis for future growth. The enhanced speed, scalability, reliability, and redundancy of our data center, along with enhanced web software options, are opening many new doors for schools and finalsite.
Our web software will remain fully cross-platform: Windows, Mac OS, and Linux are all supported. All it takes is a modern web browser and Internet access at home or at school.
